Know exactly where your money goes! Grab a small notebook and make a detailed daily log of all of your purchases. This means items outside of your utility bills. Any grocery shopping, clothing shopping or electronic purchases you make should be recorded. Make sure to keep any and all receipts taped inside of this notebook. This will ensure that you not only have proof of purchase for tax deductible items, but you can see your spending habits upfront.
If you do not already have a simple filing system, now is the time to set one up. Make sure you have a file folder for each expense or income record, and mark it clearly. If you own your own property, include the mortgage records, tax records and any other documents connected with your property. If you are a renter, keep a copy of your lease and a record of your rent payments on file. Any insurance policies and records of those payments should also be readily available.
Keep your file of documents in a safe place in your home, in a fireproof file box if possible. If you want to make sure your information is extra safe, keep copies of the very important documents in a safe deposit box at your bank.

Start going out less and save your money. Try and limit how much you go out to a couple of times in a week. You don't want to spend a lot of money on going out all the time, because it adds up. Try and save a bit of money here and there and see if you can manage to only go out a limited number of times. The little bit you save here and there will add up, and it will help you have a solid amount of money in your bank account.
